Three-star Florida DT Aaron Thompson commits to Maryland

Maryland continued to delve into the Florida talent pool for its 2016 recruiting class and picked up a commitment from Dillard (Fla.) three-star defensive tackle Aaron Thompson Jan. 21.

Thompson announced his commitment to the Terps via his Twitter account saying, “After Talking It Over With My Family I Have Decided To Commit To The University Of Maryland #GoTerps.”

This is the second pledge from the Sunshine State that Maryland has received in the two days. Osceola (Fla) three-star running back LaDerrien Wilson announced his commitment to the Terps 2016 class Jan. 20 after an in-home visit from head coach D.J. Durkin.

The 6-foot-2, 260-pound Thompson took an official visit to College Park the weekend of Jan. 15. He might still take official visits to Tennessee and South Carolina this month.

Thompson is rated as the 46th-ranked defensive tackle in his class and the 85th-ranked prospect in the state of Florida. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native becomes just the second defensive player to commit to Maryland’s 2016 recruiting class. Good Counsel (Md.) three-star cornerback Travon Stott is the only other pledge on that side of the ball for the Terps at the moment.
