The 2016 USA Men's Basketball U18 National Team captured gold on Saturday night, defeating Canada 99-84 to win the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship.

Two Terps took home gold as Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon served as an assistant and incoming freshman guard Kevin Huerter was an integral part of USA's guard rotation.

"This is something you always dream about," said Turgeon following the win. "To be a part of USA Basketball and win a gold medal is very special. It was a great group of guys. They really worked hard over the past three weeks. I worked with two great coaches (Head Coach Shaka Smart and Assistant Coach Kevin Ollie). I learned a lot and really enjoyed it. This experience is something I will always remember."

Huerter's biggest performance for Team USA came in the final game of pool play, where he scored a team-high 14 points, including a game-high four made three-pointers. For the five-game tournament, Huerter averaged 6.8 points and connected on six three-point attempts.

"It was an extremely great feeling to win and be on the podium with my teammates as champions," said Huerter. "It was a great experience. We played in front of great crowds and were able to overcome adversity against great teams."

Team USA was led by former DeMatha Catholic (Md.) and incoming University of Washington guard Markelle Fultz, who scored a team-high 23 points in the final. Canada was led by Virginia Tech commit Nickeil Alexander-Walker who scored a game-high 25 points.

Team USA finished a perfect 5-0 in tournament play en route to gold. Canada took home the silver while Brazil claimed bronze.
