Sophomore guard Melo Trimble has withdrawn his name from the upcoming NBA Draft and will return to Maryland for his junior season, according to CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.

Trimble declared for the draft back on April 11, opting not to sign with an agent. This allowed Trimble the option to withdraw his name by the May 25 deadline and return to Maryland for his junior season.

The 6-foot-3 point guard worked out for the Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, San Antonio Spurs and Atlanta Hawks. A scheduled workout with the Indiana Pacers last week was cancelled. Trimble had one final workout with the Philadelphia 76ers scheduled for Wednesday.

“It gives me a chance to see where I'm at," Trimble said of going through the process in an interview with Bucks.com following his workout with Milwaukee. "I didn’t have the second half of the year that I wanted. At the beginning of the year, I was really good and then I dropped a little bit. Just to put my name in the draft and see if I’m ready for the next level and if I’m not, I’ll go back."

Trimble participated in the NBA Draft Combine earlier in May, taking part in testing as well as 5-on-5 scrimmages. He had the smallest wingspan of those invited to the combine.

The return of Trimble is a major boon for a Terps program that will have to replace four starters from last season's Sweet Sixteen team.

A two-time All-Big Ten selection and an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American in 2016, Trimble averaged a team-leading 14.8 points, 5.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game as a sophomore.
